Vandal Factory: Vandal Factory is a Leeds/York-based theatre company currently comprising of performance poet Henry Raby and theatre director Natalie Quatermass. Inspired by our politics and experiences as activists, we aim to create boldly political theatre that presents stories and characters that challenge injustice and social norms. We also play with narrative driven story, music and audience interaction.
English Dirt: We are at the very initial stages of producing our next show; English Dirt.
With the rise of nationalism across the West, English Dirt will interrogate themes of historic nationhood and land-ownership and connect them to the current contemporary struggles around border controls, fracking legislation and the housing crisis. Within the current toxic political environment, we wish to find the antidote through intersectional community and solidarity. Vandal Factory is committed to transforming audiences into activists.
English Dirt is a collaboration between ourselves and York 2-piece band Flora Greysteel. Flora Greysteel are a York-based theatrical alternative pop duo comprising of Emily Rowan and Simon Bolley. They compose with a wide variety of instruments including drums, piano, ukulele, glockenspiel, thumb piano and assorted small percussion, and widespread use of loop pedal. We are researching English folks songs that have accompanied working-class revolts and historic land struggles and twisting them into contemporary compositions.
